The Balassi Institute established by the Ministry of Education and Culture was appointed to promote Hungarian culture as well as providing information about Hungary's geographic and social features, including her history and contemporary characteristics, both for foreigners living in Hungary and abroad within the framework of Hungarian international cultural relations.

Undergraduate (BA/BSc) or graduate (MA/MSc) students (enrolled at foreign higher education institutions), especially if majoring in Hungarian Language and Literature or participating in a single degree track university programme (such as General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Studies, Veterinary Studies, Architecture, Studies in Law, etc.).
Completed minimum two semesters at home institution.
