Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology: Research Student Scholarship
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) accepts applications from overseas students for study in Japan. Its aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between foreign countries and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world. The set of scholarships given by the Japanese government are called the Monbukagakushu scholarships.

Prospective students from 168 countries permissible to apply
wishing to apply for a scholarship should meet one of the criteria listed below:
Recommended by a Japanese embassy or consulate general (Embassy Recommendation).
Recommended by the Japanese university which will accept you (University Recommendation).
Selected by the Japanese university in which you are currently enrolled if you are a privately-financed student already studying in Japan (Domestic Selection). Age limit of 35.
