Rotary International: Rotary Youth Exchange
Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures. This year, more than 8,000 teens will see the world through the Youth Exchange program. As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, students will spend a year, or perhaps just an extended period of time, living with a host family in a country other than their own. They may learn a new language; they will learn a new way of living and a great deal about themselves But there's more. While students are busy learning, the people they meet will be learning as well - about their home country, culture, and ideas.

Students interested in becoming Rotary Youth Exchange students should begin by contacting a local Rotary club to learn more about exchange opportunities and requirements in their area. If unable to contact the local club students are encouraged to contact the local Rotary district Youth Exchange chair. The district and/or multi-district chair is in charge of Youth Exchange in your Rotary district. In most districts students must fill out a preliminary application. If the preliminary application is accepted students usually complete a full application, go through a series of interviews, and occasionally take a test before being selected as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. The local Rotary Club and Youth Exchange district chair will help guide students through the application and interview process. There is a District Chair Locator tool that can be accessed on the website. As the Rotary Youth Exchange programme is highly selective, students should apply early - up to a year in advance of when they wish to leave. For long-term exchanges to the Northern Hemisphere selection usually takes place in the fall prior to the year of the exchange. If students wish to travel abroad when they are in 11th grade, they should apply in September of their 10th grade year.
