people and places: Conserving Saint Lucia's historical & natural heritage

Pigeon Island National Landmark is one of Saint Lucia's most important historic monuments, and is the location of the National Trust's headquaters. The Trust was created in 1975 for the specific purpose of preserving buildings, objects and sites of historic and architectural interest, and areas of natural beauty together with their animal and plant life, for present and future generations. Along with their mandate for conservation and preservation, the Trust also needs to develop and improve income-generating products and services, as well as the necessary organisational structure to support these initiatives. Volunteers will work with and advise the executive staff team of twenty, who are led by Bishnu Tulsie, Director of the Trust. The volunteer programme is based at the Pigeon Island National Landmark, a living museum within a natural setting of 44 acres - originally surrounded by the sea but now joined to the mainland by a causeway. Fascinating history, beautiful beaches, and diverse tropical fauna - what a great place to work! Oh and it's also the location of a world-renowned Jazz Festival!
