English is Uganda's official language and it is one area that students need help most. By volunteering, you help develop the pronunciation, vocabulary and writing skills of students. With the introduction of Universal Primary Education (free primary school education) in Uganda, the Uganda Government was faced with a dilemma. A large amount of students entitled to an education and a comparative lack of teachers. Teaching at a Ugandan. community school is an experience like no other. Although their lives have been harsh, the local children are extremely eager to learn. This project is an ideal opportunity to help students with new ways of learning to improve their understanding and speaking abilities of the English language. RWEYOWA needs English volunteer teachers to help in partner Schools in Uganda both nursery and primary school levels. You can volunteer and Intern from 1 month to 1 year and help the one in Need. Children are regarded as the pillars of any nation. We think that they are not only the future but also the present. Many volunerable children in Uganda can't afford additional private English classes to continue with their higher education. Your role as a volunteer can make a difference in these children's lives, many of whom dream of speaking English Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. It was during the population census of 2002, a door to door exercise, that committed volunteers who were directly involved in the exercise felt concerned about the terrible living conditions of people affected/infected with HIV/AIDS. They thought it helpful to come up with RWEYOWA to reduce the further spread of HIV/AIDS and improve the livelihoods of those affected/infected with HIV/AIDS in the community.
RWEYOWA's core strength is its excellent understanding of the community it serves and its practical approach of finding solutions to community problems. This strength is derived from the fact that some of the implementers of RWEYOWA's activities are members of the same vulnerable groups that RWEYOWA targets (i.e. are people affected/infected with HIV/AIDS in the community).
RWEYOWA is dedicated to serving the people of Wakiso and Kampala Districts in Uganda. Most of its core interventions are carried out in Ssabagabo-Makindye, which is the biggest of all the sub-counties of Wakiso district, with a total population of 150,300 people (according to the Housing and population census of 2002).
Out of the total population, 10,500 are living with HIV/AIDS and this explains why Ssabagabo Makindye received the first priority.
