Slovenian Mountain Expeditions

Weekends in Slovenia have Melissa itching to get to the mountains.

After having enjoyed a tease of summer in March with a picnic in the park the previous day—hiking mountain trails seemed the perfect way to spend our Sunday.

Nestled in Triglav National Park and only a two-hour bus ride from Ljubljana, Kranjska Gora had us smiling in awe at the beauty surrounding us.

On our way up, we were met with the unexpected: snow.  We happily took on the challenge and hiked up, our inappropriate footwear (and my decision to wear shorts) causing smirks on the faces of those skiing down the trail.
Let us take a moment to think about what I just said here:

“Skiing down the trail.”

To the amusement of a Slovenian man at the top, I insisted that this is what summer in Canada is like in response to his bewildered question of, “Where are your pants?!”

To be fair, we did find the beach to take a rest and enjoy coffee at the top.

Full disclaimer: I was not cold.
