Happy 100th birthday, Parks Canada!

A little bird just told me - actually, it was the Banff Squirrel - that Parks Canada just turned 100 years old!

What can you accomplish in century, you ask? Well, for one, you can become the first national organization in the world created to protect and promote your country's natural and cultural heritage. And, along the way, you can build a network of 42 national parks (starting with the beautiful Banff National Park), 167 national historic sites and four national marine conservation areas. So to you, Parks Canada, happy centennial!

While it's no secret we Verge-ites love to take the unbeaten path through far-flung locales around the world, there's a lot to be said about discovering and appreciating the many wonders that we're lucky to have so close to home. So, to celebrate 100 years of making these sites accessible and safe, here is a video about some of the cool jobs available in our national parks, and check out this link to find out how to volunteer in national parks worldwide.
